The In Home Newborn Experience

Congratulations on your growing family!

Bringing a new baby into the world is such a special time—full of love, snuggles, sleepy yawns, and moments you never want to forget. As a mom myself, I know how quickly those early days fly by. One minute you're counting tiny toes, and the next you're chasing that same baby around the living room.

That’s why newborn sessions are so close to my heart. I want to help you freeze this beautiful (and sometimes chaotic!) season before it slips away. My goal is to capture not just how your baby looks, but how this moment feels—the tenderness, the pride, the overwhelming love.

I’m so excited for you and can’t wait to document the very beginning of this amazing new chapter.

A little about my family...

My own journey to motherhood was an emotional rollercoaster, with more lows than highs. But in the end, we were blessed to adopt our incredible son and, in the process, gained a wonderful birth family as well. 💕

"Our family has since grown by two adorable feet since our wedding. Joy was the obvious choice when it came to a photographer for our newborn photo shoot. Although I went into the shoot a bit nervous (who knows how a 4-month-old will behave!), I shouldn't have worried. Joy made the session SO fun and she captured our love for our little girl so perfectly. I can't wait to continue capturing life with Joy behind the camera. Thank you, Joy, for always offering such an amazing experience!!"

Newborn Session Tips

Welcoming a new baby is such a beautiful (and sometimes overwhelming) time. My goal is to make your newborn session relaxed, meaningful, and full of love—so here are a few simple tips to help you feel prepared and confident.

Timing

Newborn sessions are typically scheduled within the first 7–10 days after birth, when babies are still extra sleepy and snuggly. If your baby is already past that window, no worries—we can still capture beautiful moments together.

Keep It Simple

Select 2-3 outfits at most for your new babe to wear.  That being said, have a couple backups just in case for spit up.

A Sleepy, Full Baby Is Ideal

If possible, try to keep baby awake for 30–60 minutes before your session, then plan a feeding right before we begin. A full belly and a sleepy baby make for smooth, cuddly photos.

What to Wear

I always suggest coordinating with the nursery or another room you plan to hang the photos in your house.  You can keep the clothing casual or dress up a little with a flowy dress.   Not a bad idea to have a backup option for parents and siblings too.

Including Pets

If your furry family member is part of the story, I’m happy to include them! Just let me know ahead of time so I can plan accordingly.

Relax and Trust the Process

Babies cry, need breaks, and don’t always follow our plans—and that’s okay. These sessions are calm, flexible, and built around your baby’s needs. I’ll guide you every step of the way, so you can simply be present and enjoy this fleeting season.
