The In Home Newborn Experience

Congratulations on your growing family!

Bringing home a new baby is one of life's sweetest and most exhausting seasons. The days are filled with sleepy snuggles, tiny fingers wrapped around yours, and a whole lot of learning as you settle into your new normal. Before you know it, those little newborn stretches and sleepy yawns are replaced with smiles, giggles, and first steps.

As a mom myself, I know just how quickly it all changes. That's why I love in-home newborn sessions. There's no packing up the diaper bag or worrying about getting out the door on time. Instead, you get to stay where you're most comfortable while I gently document this season exactly as it is.

My hope is that your session feels relaxed and unhurried. We'll take breaks for feedings, diaper changes, and all the little moments in between because that's what life with a newborn really looks like. Years from now, I want these photos to remind you not only of how tiny your baby was, but of how it felt to hold them in your arms.

Birth Family Photo

My journey to motherhood wasn't the one I expected. It was filled with more lows than highs, but in 2020, we were incredibly blessed to adopt our amazing son, Hunter. Through that journey, we also gained a wonderful birth family, and our hearts grew in ways we never imagined.

That experience changed me forever. It gave me an even deeper appreciation for family, connection, and the moments that become part of our stories.

Newborn Fingers
"Our family has since grown by two adorable feet since our wedding. Joy was the obvious choice when it came to a photographer for our newborn photo shoot. Although I went into the shoot a bit nervous (who knows how a 4-month-old will behave!), I shouldn't have worried. Joy made the session SO fun and she captured our love for our little girl so perfectly. I can't wait to continue capturing life with Joy behind the camera. Thank you, Joy, for always offering such an amazing experience!!"

Newborn Session Tips

Welcoming a new baby is such a beautiful (and sometimes overwhelming) season. My hope is that your newborn session feels relaxed, meaningful, and completely centered around your family. Here are a few simple tips to help you feel prepared before we meet.

Timing

Newborn sessions are typically scheduled within the first 7-10 days after birth, when babies are extra sleepy and love to snuggle. If your little one is already past that stage, don't worry! We can still create beautiful, meaningful photos together.

Keep It Simple

Two maybe three outfits are plenty for your new little one. I always recommend having an extra on hand too...you know, just in case someone decides to spit up at the perfect moment!

A Full Belly Goes a Long Way

If possible, try to keep your baby awake for 30-60 minutes before I arrive, then plan a feeding right before we begin. A full, sleepy baby often makes for a more relaxed session, but if that doesn't happen, it's okay. We'll follow your baby's lead.

What to Wear

I recommend choosing outfits that coordinate with the room where you plan to display your photos, whether that's the nursery, your bedroom, or the living room. Soft, neutral colors photograph beautifully, and flowy dresses always add a lovely touch. It never hurts to have a backup outfit for parents or siblings too!

Including Pets

Your pets are family too! If you'd like them to be part of your session, just let me know ahead of time so I can plan for them.

The Most Important Thing

Babies cry. They need to eat. They need diaper changes, cuddles, and breaks. That's all part of this season, and there's never any pressure to rush. I'll work around your baby's needs so you can relax, love on your little one, and simply enjoy this time together.
