Family sessions are meant to feel relaxed, joyful, and full of genuine connection. Whether we’re photographing your family in Wheaton, exploring a favorite Chicago location, or gathering at a meaningful outdoor space nearby, a little preparation helps your session feel easy and fun from start to finish. Here are five simple ways to walk into your family session feeling confident and ready. Here are 5 Helpful Tips to Prepare For Your Family Session:
1. Coordinate With Intention
Instead of matching outfits exactly, think about choosing a soft, cohesive color palette. Neutrals paired with one or two complementary tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your faces and connection. Lay everything out ahead of time so you can see how it flows together.
Most importantly, wear something that feels comfortable and like you. When you feel good, it shows.
2. Think Happy and Rested
A well-rested child with a full tummy is always a win. Try to plan naps and meals accordingly, and bring a small, easy snack just in case. A quick break or reset is completely normal, and sometimes those little pauses create the sweetest moments.
There is no expectation of perfection. Real life is welcome here.

3. Keep Expectations Light
Let your kids know you’re spending time together as a family and that it will be fun. The more relaxed everyone feels, the more natural the smiles and interactions will be. This is not a performance. It’s simply time together with the people you love most.
Some of the best images come from movement, laughter, and those beautifully unscripted moments.
4. Trust the Flow
You never have to wonder what to do with your hands or where to stand. I’ll guide you gently into flattering light and natural movement, while giving space for connection to unfold. If your little one wants to twirl, explore, or snuggle in close, we’ll lean into it.
I’m always watching for the in-between moments. The ones that feel the most like you.

5. Be Present
At the heart of it all, your only job is to be present with your family. Laugh with them. Hold them close. Soak in this season exactly as it is. The way they reach for your hand, the way they lean into you, the way everyone fits together right now — these are the details that grow more meaningful with time.
As a Wheaton-based family and wedding photographer serving the greater Chicago area, my goal is always the same: to create images that feel relaxed, genuine, and full of heart. Because your story matters — every chapter.
