Brian and Liz’s engagement summer engagement session in Downtown Milwaukee was the perfect love letter to the city they call home.

There’s something extra special about photographing a couple in a place that’s woven into their everyday life—the streets they walk, the skyline they recognize instantly, the city that holds their routines, memories, and milestones. Downtown Milwaukee was the ideal backdrop for Brian and Liz: vibrant, authentic, and full of character… just like their story.

And what a story it is.

Brian and Liz’s journey actually began years ago, back in middle school. While neither of them really remembers much from those early days, fate wasn’t done yet. By high school, they found themselves in the same friend group, starting around junior year, spending time together without any idea of what was quietly unfolding. They even went to prom together senior year—just friends at the time.

Life carried them in different directions after graduation. College brought new experiences, new relationships, and new chapters. But near the end of college, during a break back home, they reconnected once again with that same high school friend group. This time, things felt different.

They spent more time together the summer after college, forming a deeper connection—but still without labels, as Liz was preparing to head to Vermont to teach. Distance didn’t slow them down though. FaceTime calls became a constant, and when Brian visited Liz in the fall, they decided to officially make their long-distance relationship… official.

What followed was four years of long-distance love from Vermont to Wisconsin. Four years of effort, communication, and choosing each other again and again. And it all led to a big milestone in the summer of 2021, when Liz moved to Milwaukee and the two of them finally moved in together.

Then, in February 2023, Brian popped the question—putting the perfect exclamation point on a love story that had been years in the making.

Their downtown Milwaukee engagement session felt effortless and genuine. As we walked through the city, laughed between locations, and soaked in the urban energy around us, it was clear how comfortable they are together. This city isn’t just where they live—it’s where their long-distance chapter ended and their shared life truly began.
